BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED?
Learn something new every day and listen to your client’s needs. As the industry is constantly evolving, I believe being able to learn new skills daily has helped me to grow my department. Listening to my client’s needs has helped me gain their trust in our company and our services.
WHICH WATER TREATMENT QUESTIONS DO YOU HEAR MOST FROM CUSTOMERS?
“Why does this cost so much?” My response is our company sells quality products at honest pricing. For our products’ value, they will last for many years and serve their purpose to protect their home and family. Water is our number one resource.
FIRST STEPS FOR A CONTRACTOR TO TAKE TO OFFER WATER TREATMENT?
Become educated in water treatment, network with vendors/supply chain using social media to connect with each other, acquire a high-quality test kit, and utilize your local labs.
BEING EFFECTIVE IN WATER TREATMENT MEANS . . .
Since our business began in 1884 and I’m fifth generation, I’ve learned that being compassionate with what we do is key. Each of our clients’ needs are different, so having knowledge of working on a water well drilling crew for 18 years has been beneficial to growing my water treatment department.
MOST ESSENTIAL TOOL YOU USE EVERY DAY?
The most essential tool you can use every day is yourself—the professional . . . ears, eyes, and brain. You have to listen to your client, see what the problem is, and have the knowledge to fix it. Also, a great test kit doesn’t hurt.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE OF WATER TREATMENT LOOK LIKE?
Promising and questionable. Promising for the fact that our industry is progressing with new technology and tools in our field. Questionable because we will continue to be bombarded with new obstacles continuing to threaten our water quality.
