THE BEST ADVICE I EVER GOT?
The best advice I ever got was from my dad. He grew up during the Great Depression and he was a fixer. His advice was to cherish any job you’re hired to do because it’s a privilege, not a right.

MOST SATISFYING PART OF YOUR JOB?
Making a difference in people’s lives in a positive manner. When I can see a difference in the professionalism contractors bring to work daily, it’s a great feeling.

FAVORITE MEMORIES AS 2011 NGWA FOUNDATION McELLHINEY LECTURER?
Meeting people from all over the country and experiencing their commitment to the groundwater industry. That and the memory of how poor conditions are in other parts of the world when it comes to everyday sanitation and practical methods for groundwater protection.

TOUGHEST CHALLENGES YOU FACE?
The toughest challenges I face are in having enough time and resources to put into practice everything I’ve learned in the past 10 to 15 years.

WHAT DO YOU MOST LOOK FORWARD TO IN COMING TO THE ANNUAL GROUNDWATER WEEK?
Reconnecting with all the wonderful people at NGWA and the volunteers who help make it a great organization. I have benefited from being around so many talented and dedicated professionals. I know it’s made me better at my job.

THE NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH YOU WERE A PART OF RECEIVED THE 2017 NGWA GROUNDWATER PROTECTION PROJECT AWARD FOR THE NEBRASKA GROUT STUDY. WHAT DO YOU HOPE THE STUDY’S LEGACY WILL BE?
My hope is the groundwater industry never stops asking why and looking for new and better ways to improve our craft. The grout study and subsequent research was started in relation to the question: “Why are nitrates levels rising in Nebraska?”
