THE BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED?
“Challenge yourself to continue to learn something new every day. Encourage and support everyone around you as they also strive to grow and succeed.” There are so many different aspects of the groundwater industry that we are provided with an endless opportunity to pursue knowledge and experience.

HOW SHOULD INSTALLERS NEW TO VFDs GET UP TO SPEED ON THEM?
Talk to your distributors about training opportunities on VFDs (variable frequency drives). Most of the distributors in our industry have talented, knowledgeable team members who can provide training. Oftentimes, they will also have opportunities to get the manufacturers of the VFDs involved for additional support and resources.

FAVORITE PUMP SYSTEM RESOURCES?
In today’s world it is easy to get online, visit manufacturers’ websites, and have enough information available to make our eyes go cross. I still believe experience is the greatest resource. Network with other contractors, share positive and negative experiences, and learn from the “old timers” as they pass the torch.

ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR INSTALLING 4-INCH PUMP SYSTEMS?
With well depths averaging 300 feet to 700 feet and working between 4500 feet to 7300 feet elevation here in central Arizona, a safe, reliable four-wheel drive pump hoist is an absolute must-have tool for us. Followed closely by a good pair of waterproof work boots.

HOW CAN PUMP COMPANIES RECRUIT THE NEXT GENERATION OF WORKERS?
I believe most of us in the groundwater industry feel this is possibly our biggest struggle. We try to offer fair competitive compensation packages with benefits and room to grow in a respectful work environment. Knowledge can be taught over time; honesty and integrity are unfortunately a different story.

WHAT ARE YOU EYEING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IN 2024?
Outside of continuing to stay up to speed with new product and technology with pump controllers, I would like to be more involved in the process that determines regulations in our groundwater industry. Regulation impacts all of us, and I believe we should have a voice in it.
