WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER AS THE BEST ADVICE YOU EVER RECEIVED?
There are two and they both came from my father. “If you are going to do it, do it right the first time.” and “Surround yourself with good people and good things will happen.” These not only pertain to the water well industry but also everyday life.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST SATISFYING PART OF YOUR JOB?
Going out into the field and meeting the people who are installing our pumps. I was an installer before coming to A.Y. McDonald in 2005, so it is very satisfying to see our products solving issues in the field.

WHAT ARE YOU HEARING MOST FROM YOUR CUSTOMERS?
Supply chain issues have become a big concern. Most understand the issue, but they want to know what we are doing to resolve the problem. Being honest on delivery dates is an important part of that equation.

WHAT IN YOUR OPINION IS THE BEST GREEN TECHNOLOGY FOR PUMPS?
Variable speed drives, especially in commercial jobs. My local community once reported that 70 percent of the city’s electric bill was tied to pumping water. When you consider that along with reports that VFDs can reduce electric consumption as much as 50 percent, there is tremendous savings that come from using drives.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE LATEST ADVANCEMENTS IN PUMP TECHNOLOGY?
Variable speed drives have taken the technology to a new level. People who move from the city to the rural areas want “city pressure” and the drives do exactly that.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER IS THE GREATEST CHALLENGE FACING MANUFACTURERS OF PUMP SYSTEMS?
Supply chain issues and labor shortages.
