HOW WAS GEOTHERMAL WORKLOAD IN 2023 AND EXPECTATIONS FOR 2024?
Consistent-ish. The market is definitely moving in a positive direction, but I would love to see a countrywide answer on workload that doesn’t include the “ish.”

NO. 1 ISSUE FACING THE GEOTHERMAL MARKET IN 2024?
When the market does start to really develop and provide a consistent flow of work, there is a big gap of talent in the market. Finding employees to fill job openings is going to continue to be a challenge in 2024.

TOP BUSINESS MANAGEMENT LESSON THAT YOU’VE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS?
Be humble enough to listen to ideas around you. Create a culture of open doors that allows everyone to feel that they have a voice and can contribute. Ultimately, to learn even when the ideas aren’t the best and continue to encourage people to come to you with their thoughts.

MOST OVERLOOKED ASPECT OF GEOTHERMAL DRILLING?
Our drill rigs aren’t equipped with lasers that burn a perfectly plumb hole every time in every formation. We don’t have a perfect picture of what’s going on in the subsurface. Drilling is a little science and a lot of educated guesses on what’s going on under your feet.

WHAT ARE YOU EYEING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IN 2024?
How to help the industry grow and how to educate and teach people about geothermal. It’s such an awesome technology—and even more, I would love to learn more about the unique applications for the technology beyond just space conditioning. It’s just so cool!

THE BEST ADVICE I EVER GOT?
Progress is greater than perfection. Giving others, and yourself, the grace to not be perfect all the time is an amazing gift.
