WHAT DID YOU EXHIBIT AT GROUNDWATER WEEK 2025 AND WHAT WAS THE ATTENDEE REPONSE?
We exhibited our new NMB-G underreamer with 20% stronger wings and pins, plus our new carbide button shape called The Samurai that is used in our DTH bits. Attendees responded enthusiastically to the performance improvements, praising the durability, ease of use, and potential productivity gains in challenging drilling conditions.
WHAT IS THE GREATEST CHALLENGE FACING DTH HAMMER AND BIT MANUFACTURERS?
Balancing rising raw material, energy, and labor costs with customer demands for competitive pricing, consistent quality, and shorter lead times, while also navigating tariffs, supply chain disruptions, and increasing performance expectations in demanding drilling conditions.
BEST ADVICE IN RUNNING AN UNDERREAMER OR RING BIT SYSTEM?
Proper training and patience. Take time to understand the tool, follow recommended procedures, and drill deliberately. Rushing leads to premature wear or failure, while controlled operation improves tool life, hole quality, and overall drilling performance.
TOP TIP IN MAINTAINING DRILL BITS?
Consistent inspection and proper operation. Monitor wear regularly, maintain correct feed pressure and rotation, and avoid excessive weight on bit. Sharpening carbides early and running the bit within recommended parameters significantly extends bit life and performance.
MOST OVERLOOKED PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE FOR A DTH HAMMER?
Proper lubrication and regular inspection. Using the correct oil at the right rate and routinely inspecting wear components helps prevent premature failures, ensures efficient operation, and extends overall hammer life.
WHICH DTH TOOLING ADVANCEMENTS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT IN 2026?
We’re most excited about advancements that focus on durability and control. More carbide shapes and grades, improved button profiles, refined airflow for better cuttings evacuation, and more robust hammer designs will help drillers maintain penetration rates, reduce wear, and extend service life in tough formations.
