EPA solicited comments In April on regulations that could be reviewed, modified, or rescinded in order to modernize the regulations, boost job creation, or remove any economic burdens imposed by the regulation.

NGWA prepared a response identifying several areas that could be modified, as well as several regulations that could be strengthened. The recommendations included:

  • More dedicated funding for infrastructure in rural areas
  • Greater emphasis on source water protection
  • Streamlining of brownfields cleanups
  • Consulting with not-for-profits like NGWA and its members to provide expertise.

More than 70,000 responses to the request for comments were received. These responses are to be analyzed by a task force appointed by EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt.

The request for comments represented an important opportunity to reinforce NGWA’s mission, and the numerous regulations that protect and manage groundwater. The recommendations suggested would also provide opportunities to improve and refine regulations.
