FMCSA to Send Report to Congress in Response to CSA Study

A report of the comprehensive National Academy of Sciences study of the federal Compliance, Safety, Accountability program will soon be sent to Congress outlining corrective actions, according to an article by Transport Topics.

The CSA program is a safety measurement system to identify safety concerns and prevent crashes involving high-risk carriers. Criticism of the existing CSA program stemmed from gaps in available data and a seeming unwillingness to remove crashes from a motor carrier’s record where they were not at fault.

The report to Congress could provide basis for legislation to modify the way FMCSA safety management is conducted. Any modifications have the potential to raise costs of compliance for businesses with fleets of vehicles regulated by FMCSA.
