Court Grants Trump Administration Request to Freeze Clean Power Plan

Despite a challenge from several states, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia granted a Trump administration request to suspend lawsuits on the Clean Power Plan, while the new administration reviews the regulation.

The Clean Power Plan was the subject of an early executive order by the Trump White House, which ordered the review and likely repeal of the regulation which required states to develop plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The ruling from the court effectively squelches any hope of the Clean Power Plan surviving, since the EPA has indicated it would like to rescind the regulation.

The Clean Power Plan would have provided an important incentive to adopt renewable energy technologies, like geothermal heat pumps.
