Congress Focuses on Infrastructure During 2017 Infrastructure Week

Published On: May 22, 2017By Categories: Newsline
2017 Infrastructure Week, observed last week, featured events, congressional hearings, panel discussions, and receptions to highlight the need for infrastructure investment and the benefits of investment in the economy.

House and Senate committee hearings on infrastructure legislation included three water-related hearings on drinking water, wastewater, and water management.

During a Senate hearing on infrastructure, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao informed the committee the Trump administration would outline its “principles” for an infrastructure plan later this month, but is relying on Congress to handle the specifics of projects and funding. She indicated water and sewer infrastructure would be included in the principles.

NGWA was an affiliated organization of Infrastructure Week for the second year in a row.

Infrastructure Week cast an important spotlight on the broad and bipartisan support that investment in water infrastructure has across Capitol Hill. This will hopefully build momentum for congressional action on a broad infrastructure plan later this year.
